Access Management enables libraries to manage their public access computing stations to ensure a fair distribution of resources amongst different classes of patrons. Access Management also ensures certain workstations are reserved for particular kinds of use. Libraries often provide several different types of public access computing services for their patrons. They may, for example have workstations just for people who need to quickly check their e-mail. These workstations may only offer a browser and 15 minute session time. Short session times ensure quick turnover and shorter wait times. Another Category might be set up only for Office Suite applications and provide 2 hour session times for people doing serious document creation. These same workstation might even allow patrons to save their work between seesions. Many libraries also want to reserve a few stations specifically for for searching the library's ILS Database and reserving books or other material. Access Management makes sure ILS workstations are not used otherwise. Libraries can use the features of the Odyssey Access Manager to set up their public access computing system in a way specifically tailored to the profile of the patron community they serve. |
